The university has a proud history of pioneering chemistry training and research with practical benefits to society which continues today. The Chemistry department is one of the largest in the UK and activities cover the full range of fundamental theoretical and experimental chemistry, as well as research at chemistry’s interfaces with other disciplines such as materials, engineering, biology and medicine.
Undergraduate courses combine a broad theory basis with a strong practical component. At the postgraduate level and offer a range of multidisciplinary 1-year MRes courses in addition to a vibrant PhD programme.
The Chemistry department is based on two of the College’s campuses: the early years of undergraduate teaching are carried out in South Kensington, while research groups (including undergraduate research projects) are located in the Molecular Sciences Research Hub, which opened in 2018 on the College’s new White City campus.
